Odin goes south

Odin at lake havasu, Arizona
So the day after Christmas we loaded the trailer and headed south out of the snow and the cold for a few days, Odin is a very good traveler, he does very well staying in the trailer. not sure if we would ever be able to stay in a motel with him as he is very vocal when ever he wants something. we spent time in St George, Utah , Laughlin, Nevada, Lake havasu, Arizona, and many places in between
Odin loved getting out into the desert and just running.
many new things to explore

I will say Laughlin Nevada is a very dog friendly place, there is a state park about 3 miles down the road where you can take your dogs ( even off leash) and give them some exercise. The people there were great. The food at the Colorado Belle casino was wonderful. The weather was perfect t-shirt weather with daytime highs right around 64 degrees. we will definitely go back.

So Christmas at our house was a ball, this is our granddaughter baby chelle (0r her real name of Lachelle) opening presents, as you can see Odin was right in the middle of things and even helped her rip the wrapping paper off her presents, he loves her as long as she leaves his toys alone, which she doesn't so they played this game all night of her taking the toy and him taking the toy away and putting it back, he didn't want the toys he just didn't want her to have them, he's very gentle with her when taking them away and looks very disgusted when she gets them again. then he got even by taking her new teddy bear or so he thought as she didn't really care if he had it

Christmas creations

So I know everybody thinks this is Odins page and I suppose for the most part it is, and while he takes up a lot of my time he does still sleep a lot as only puppies (and babies) do. So your probably wondering what else I do other than play with the dog. I have included pics of my latest creation,( the glare is from the gloss finish) its for a girlfriend of mine for Christmas. she's very into old fashioned western. The silhouettes are one of my favorites and I have many hanging all over my house, so I love to paint them also. The saw came out of the shop on my grandfathers ranch and is at least 50 years old, it was quite dirty and rusty when I started but cleaned up pretty nice. I had so much fun doing this one that I'm quite in the mood to do another, I have a couple more saws so we will see what I end up with next. So I'm off to paint!
a different angle and the glare is not so bad

Odin the pack rat

Odins playground (we have snow finally)

he looks so Innocent

So I know its been a few days since I posted, just been really busy. Odin has been very busy himself, he's decided that presents are a very good thing. doesn't matter if there his presents or somebody Else's, he takes them as his own. There doesn't seem to be any distinction between what he picks just that he decided he wants it. wrapped, unwrapped it doesn't matter to him. He love the ups guy to come because it means more treasures.

See Odin is a pack rat and collects things all through the day and puts them in either his bed at the shop or in his toy box at home (which is the tote he slept in when we first got him and now is turned on its side to keep toys in) At the shop its large bolts, rubber gaskets, lids of any kind , even one of our employees 2 liter bottles of pop, rags are a great favorite, as are the boxes freight comes in, bubble wrap will keep him entertained for hours, at home its the kids toys, socks, sticks from outside, the lid of things, paper of any kind.
Today he locked himself in the girls bathroom trying to get in the cupboard underneath the sink which resulted in the door closing and he was unable to get out by the time I found him, he was sitting patiently with a roll of toilet paper in his mouth waiting for someone to open the door. A two year old is into less than this dog, this is why he goes to the shop with us everyday, as god only knows what the house would look like if we left him home alone, which by the way we have only done once and lost the remote to the TV and the cordless phone .

Odin again

exercise for Odin.

ASLEEP AT LAST (YES THATS MY BED)
So as you know from yesterday Odin has been a little crazy from, one lack of exercise and two a dramatic change in his routine, So last night I had a bright idea, I thought, why not put Odin on the treadmill and give him a walk, how hard could it be right? I think I would of exuded less energy in just getting dressed and taking him for a walk. See although he looks like a dog in many ways he is still very much a puppy and everything scares him, new noises, a bag blowing in the bushes that sort of thing, oh and apparently the sound that the treadmill itself makes. So as long as the treadmill was off he was like ok moms sitting on this thing I'll get my two front feet on it, or as he likes to do his back two feet and butt on it but never the whole dog at one time and the whole time he's doing this he's biting my arm, jumping over me and the treadmill and in general having a good time ( me on the floor to him means play time) so as I think I am finally going to get him on the darn thing my hubby hits the run button and on comes the treadmill sliding me onto the floor and sending Odin into a panic, which means alot of Jumping (not on the treadmill) from the bed to the floor, alot of barking, whining, and talking on his part and no way after that could I of got him near it, I laughed so hard I had no energy left to even try, so I gave up for the night, After all of this him and I were exhausted and crawled into bed him for a nap me for some quiet time.

I am going to try the treadmill thing again just next time will use his halter and leash.

Ugh!

So I have been in bed sick with the flu for 2 days, while this doesn't come as bid news, Odin our puppy has not taken it so well. He seems to be a creature of habit and doesn't take well to having his routine changed. So its bad enough that he has stitches in his leg and is unable to have his daily runs, but now nothing is going as it should, My husband and I are self employed so we have the freedom to take Odin to work with us everyday, Which he loves. He thinks everybody who comes to the shop comes to see him, and in an area where most people have dogs most stop and pet him and talk to him which feeds his belief. So for the last 2 days I have been in bed. no running the kids to school, no running errands ,and no going to the shop, and no one to get on the floor and play with him.

So being the character that he is has resorted to bringing his toys to my bed, I now have a bed full of ropes, chew bones, squeaky toys, and his favorite foot ball, sleeping has just about been out of the question, he bites my feet, pulls my hair, bites my arms, licks my nose, and steals the covers. For anybody who knows these kind of dogs you know they never give up once they decide on something. I finally had to call my husband at the shop and have him come and get him just so I could have a nap.

When he gets home our poor boston bull dog then becomes his next target, till he goes and hides under the chair where Odin can't go because he's too tall.

The cats outside have seen no mercy, nor have the girls stuffed animals which he keeps stealing from their rooms when they are not looking, and if you don't get to him quickly enough they are torn to shreds.

believe me when I say him and I are both looking forward to me feeling better and getting him back to his routine.

its Christmas in case you have forgotton

Its monday and its the Christmas season ( for anybody who may have forgotton) I think mondays are bad enough, add shopping for friends and family, the mailing out of Christmas cards, family parties, work parties, kids programs at school, church gatherings, things can get pretty crazy. This year I have completed almost all of my shopping from the comfort of my glider rocker, which has been pretty stress free, I found some really great bargain sites, most right now have free shipping and nothing I have ordered has been backordered, plus I am now on a first name basis with the fed-ex guy, the ups guy, and the guy at the post office. ( will have to give them plates of cookies I'm thinkin) plus its like Christmas everyday for me, I get to open a new box and see what is inside, and know the joy that gift is going to give to whom it was purchased for. So thats my christmas shopping story, I've had so much fun this year that I'm sure I'll do it again next year!
Oh and for anybody who might be wondering Odin is doing fine, the stitches don't seem to bother him unless he wants some attention then he'll come up and put his leg in your lap so that you will boob him, We have decided to forgo his daily runs for a few days in order for the leg to heal and already he's driving us crazy (to much energy) going to try him on the treadmill see if we can work some excess off at a slow walk, will let you know how it goes

Sundays

So I'm new to this blog thing, but thought I'd like to give it a try.

So Its Sunday again, I truly love Sundays, get to hang out in my pj's all day and just do things that I like to do, so today I got my airbrush out and painted, (inks were my paint choice today) for awhile, made two beaded christmas ornaments, and in general was having a quiet day, then it happened. Odin our 10 month old Seppala Siberian husky while out on his morning run with my husband cut a 3 inch gash in his right front leg, which required stitches so off to the the vets we went, which here in the middle of nowhere requires finding the vet, as there are no animal clinics open on the weekend and then waiting for him to show up at the office, Odin was a very good dog and took being shaved and stitched very well for a 10 month old puppy, all the extra attention he has recieved since coming home hasn't hurt him any either, we expect he will make a full recovery with minimal scaring.

We on the other hand will look forward to next Sunday!
